Special Stitch Tutorials

Mini puff

Insert the hook and pull up a loop. Yarn over, insert into the same space, and pull up a loop twice more. With six loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all loops. CH 1 before the next puff.

Beginning DC4TOG

After CH 2, work four unfinished double crochets in the same space, leaving one additional loop after each partial stitch. Yarn over and pull through all five loops. The CH 2 and DC4TOG together form the first five-stitch cluster.

DC5TOG petal

Work five unfinished double crochets into the same space. After the fifth partial stitch there are six loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through all six loops.

Extended single crochet

Insert the hook into the space, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through one loop only; yarn over again and pull through both remaining loops.

Questions

Can I use a different yarn weight?

Yes. Match the hook to the yarn label and expect the finished square and yardage to change.

Why is the center not flat?

Check the 8/8/16 progression and draw FPDC loops up to the height of the neighboring DC stitches.

How do I join several squares?

Block every motif to the same size, then whip stitch, slip stitch, or single crochet through corresponding edge stitches.

Can I change the border color?

Yes. Keep the contrast high enough for the yellow petal ring to remain visible.
