Materials

  • About 100 m / 109 yd Aran or 10–12 ply yarn in the main color
  • About 10 m / 11 yd in each of four contrast colors
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Optional 4–4.5 mm hook for a firmer cuff
  • Tapestry needle and scissors

Size and construction

The source supplies one size only. Each glove begins with a 25-row ribbed cuff that is joined into a ring. Work 26 stitches around the cuff, alternate plain and bobble rounds, then form a four-stitch thumb opening.

Important sizing note: the source gives no finished measurements or gauge. Before making the full pair, wrap the completed cuff around the intended wrist. Adjusting the cuff would also require redistributing the 26 body stitches, so this article preserves the verified source count exactly.

Abbreviations and bobble stitch

ch chain · sc single crochet · hdc half double crochet · dc double crochet · sl st slip stitch · BLO back loop only · st(s) stitch(es) · MC main color · CC contrast color.

Four-double-crochet bobble

With the contrast color, yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, then yarn over and pull through two loops. Repeat that partial double crochet three more times in the same stitch. Yarn over and pull through all five loops on the hook. Return to the main color for the next stitch.

Color handling: carry the unused strand neatly along the wrong side. Keep the carried yarn relaxed so the glove can stretch.

Step 1 of 8

Make the ribbed cuff

With the main color, chain 11. Single crochet in the second chain and across for 10 stitches.

Work rows 2–25 as 10 single crochets through the back loop only.

Count and shape checks

  • The cuff has 25 rib rows, each containing 10 sc.
  • Round 1 distributes exactly 26 sc around the cuff.
  • Every bobble round contains 13 plain sc and 13 bobbles.
  • The four chains replace four skipped stitches, keeping 26 positions.
  • The right thumb opening sits near the end of Round 9; the left opening sits near the beginning.
  • The carried yarn must remain loose enough for the glove to stretch.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the thumb openings differ?

The openings are mirrored so the pair fits a right and a left hand rather than producing two identical gloves.

Can I use one contrast color?

Yes. The stitch construction remains the same; simply use the same contrast yarn for all bobble rounds.

How do I make the cuff firmer?

The source suggests using a 4–4.5 mm hook for the cuff, then changing to the 5 mm hook for the glove body.

Is this made to a standard size?

No finished measurement or gauge is supplied. It is a one-size source pattern, so check the cuff on the intended wearer before continuing.
