Materials
- Worsted-weight yarn in one body color and one belly color
- One pair of 6 mm safety eyes
- Polyester fiberfill
- Crochet hook suitable for your yarn and tension
- Yarn needle, stitch marker and scissors
Source limitation: the original pattern does not specify a hook size, gauge or finished measurement. Use a hook that produces a firm fabric with no stuffing gaps, and do not rely on an exact finished size.
Construction
The body is a shallow 18-stitch dome. The belly is a separate 18-stitch circle. The pieces are sewn together and stuffed before the opening closes. A small forked tail is sewn to body round 6, centered opposite the eyes.
Safety: plastic eyes are not suitable for children under three. Use securely embroidered eyes for a young child’s toy.
Abbreviations
ch chain · sc single crochet · inc two sc in one stitch · sl st slip stitch · st stitch · R round.

Sew the tail to R6 of the body. Center it directly behind the eyes on the opposite side of the whale.

Frequently asked questions
What hook size should I use?
The source does not specify one. Choose a hook that makes a firm amigurumi fabric with your worsted-weight yarn.
How large is the finished whale?
No finished measurement or gauge is supplied, so size will depend on your yarn, hook and tension.
Is the belly crocheted separately?
Yes. It is a flat 18-stitch circle sewn to the 18-stitch body opening.
Where does the tail go?
Sew it to body R6, centered behind the eyes on the opposite side.
